My research is on taxonomy, faunistics and the response to habitat transformation of flightless soil macroinvertebrates. The main areas of interest are spirostreptid millipede taxonomy and faunistics. I have revised African millipede genera and described several taxa. Besides the millipedes, I have interest in earthworms and ants. In addition to morphological taxonomy, phylogenetics of flightless macroinvertebrates has been incorporated into my work with postgraduate students. I have collaborated with researchers at institutions in Africa, South America and Europe.
